2018 World Cup Bid

President Will Delay 2018 World Cup Bid Decision Until Investigation is Complete

As the 2018 World Cup bid was nearing the final stages, someone releases a firecracker showing how the poorer nations will accept potential bribes for votes to secure who will host the event.

The scandal has been bouncing around for the last 24 hours, but it now looks like the two executive members of FIFA who were placed under the spotlight have been named and shamed by one of the UK’s national press organizations for attempting to sell their bids so that one of the final 5 nations could secure the hosting of the 2018 football clash.

First under the lamp was Amos Adamu who is a Fifa Executive Committee Member, who has allegedly offered to pass his vote on to support the USA bid for the event for a sum in the region of £500,000. In a bid to give some cover for his reasoning, the Nigerian was supposed to have said it was a way of securing the future of football in his home country – by building 4 artificial pitches.

The second FIFA committee member, Tahiti’s Reynald Temarii, has also been accused of selling his bid, for an estimated £1.5million. Yet what has confused many people is the fact that his story was pretty much the same, by saying that he wanted to build a sports academy in New Zealand.

Obviously, when this was leaked to the world press, FIFA had no alternative than to suspend the decision of the board until they had looked further into the allegations, which prompted a full scale investigation.

With a £1 billion income tag for who hosts the event, it is no surprise that FIFA have decided to call off their decision, which means we are now looking at the 2nd December 2010 before the announcement is made.

The undercover sting was plotted by the Sunday Times, who sent a team of reporters to pose as lobbyists acting on behalf of an underground consortium of business men who wanted the event to be hosted in the USA.
