Washington Subway Terrorist Plotter Charged

Posted by on Thursday, 28 October, 2010

Today, a Pakistani born American was arrested and charged over the attempted terrorist bomb plot in the Washington Subway system.

Farooque Ahmed lived only a short distance away from Washington, and was today captured by American FBI agents in a clever sting operation where by Ahmed thought he was dealing with al-Qiada when it was in fact undecover officers.

Ahmed who is 34 and born in Pakistan, was arrested and accused of attempting to supply bomb making equipment to support the movement of al-Qiada, whilst at the same time as American FBi agents were gathering information to prove that he was involved in the plotting of the subway bombing attack, which could have claimed hundreds of lives should it have been set up to work.

Even though the offence was supposed to have happened in the Washington area, Ahmed was driven back by Police escort to the local Police station where he would be questioned over the allegations to plot and bomb the metro subway.

Although the attacks were not supposed to happen till early next year, there was no time like the present to move in and take the situation by the ears and get it to the court vehicle.

Bond Car Sells For £2.6 Million To American Collector

Aston Martin DB5 Reg No JB007

James Bond Aston Martin DB5 £2.6million SOLD

The most well known car ever to grace the UK roads went up for sale today at an auction house in London, and sold for a staggering £2.6 million to an American collector who claimed he had paid more than he wanted to pay.

If you have ever watched Goldfinger or Thunderball, it wouldn’t take you a few seconds to work out what we were talking about if we mentioned the number plate JB 007 – on an Aston Martin DB5?

Well, after it sitting in a basement of the late previous owner for 41 years, the car was presented back on the soil where it first started it’s life back in 1964 – and still in possesion of it’s bullet proof shield, the worlds first ever navigation system and the all so famous ejector seat. But who would have thought that a £8,000 investment back in 1969 would have attracted such a high price tag.

And even though the paintwork was looking a little tired, new owner Harry Yeaggy said: “I thought it would have been baught by a European, but I guess they don’t like Bond as much as we do!” He also claimed that he was going to “fire the car up and take it for a spin round the streets of London tonight and have a bit of fun with it.”

The DB5 was one of two cars ever used in the Bond films, but unfortunately the other one was stolen back in 1997.

Alarm Bell’s In Haiti As Cholera Breaks Out

Haiti Cholera Outbreak Appeal For Help

Haiti Suffers Another Sizeable Blow With Cholera Outbreak

Whilst Doctors work around the clock to catch up on the first intake, more and more people are being shipped into the St Nicholas Hospital with symptoms of the disease.

What is worrying medical staff more than anything is that if this becomes an epidemic, they won’t have the people to cope, let alone the supplies to treat those who could possibly fight it.

So far, this water based disease has taken the lives of over 150 people, with nearly 2000 more suffering with the sickness.

Concerned about the possible outbreak spreading across the country, medical staff, doctors and nurses are crying out for more help to try and keep the disease contained within a small area.

Cholera, which is a bacterial based disease, can be spread in many ways, of which water and poor hygiene are the top two. Even going back to when the terrible earthquake happened in January, many were predicting that there was a high chance of an outbreak due to sanitary conditions across the country.

During a telephone based press call yesterday, Dr. Joia Makherjee, the chief medical officer of Boston based Partners in Heath said: “It was a very rapid, dehydrating illness, so we suspected it might be cholera and rapidly started to look for other cases in the community.’’

But they didn’t have to wait long before they realized what they were dealing with due to the numbers of admissions to the 200 bed hospital in St. Marc. But now that numbers are increasing at such a rapid rate, people are beginning to spill out into courtyards within the hospital grounds.

No doubt this will target yet another call out to the worlds medical community for help, with another plea for extra finance to build make shift medical centres to cope with the potential flood of sick people being carried to the hospital doors.

So don’t sit and think this is not in your back yard so doesn’t matter, because it does! Simply go to your nearest donation centre, or directly to the Ahiti Appeal website where you can donate to this much deserved situation.

33 Chilean Miners Emerge to Hero’s Welcome

Chilean Miners Freed From Potential Grave

Last Chilean Miner Warms Countries Hearts With Joy and Happiness

It’s the news we have all been waiting for, as the final Chilean miner rises from the deep cave to see masses of well wishers, including the President of Chile.

After 69 days confined to a small area nearly half a mile below the surface, all 33 miners have been pulled from what could only be described as a potential mass grave, thanks to the quick thinking of the engineering and drilling facilities which have been pushing through the stone over the last few weeks.

Whilst the painstaking extraction is complete, the miners will still have a few hours before they can be completely re-united with the families due to basic health examinations on site then a short helicoptor flight to nearby Copiapo hospital.

The operation to get the miners out began to speed up during the day, thanks to the way the project had been handled from minute one, with miners surfacing from the 28inch hole approximately every 33 minutes.

The Chilean Health Minister, Jamie Manalich, was at the hospital this afternoon greeting the miners as they arrived, some with minor skin problems and eye ulcers, minor dental issues and one potential case of pnumonia. Manalich said that he estimated that all of the miners were expected to be at the hospital by Thursday at 4am local time.

With only extremely small complaints from the miners, the expected duration they will spend in hospital will be around 4-5days maximum, according to a statement made by Manalich.

This is the longest ever rescue situation which has been completed without any deaths or major injuries, which just goes to show that when in need, the world can pull together and make the impossible, possible.

Mumbai Style Terror Attacks Could Happen Warns MI5

MI5 Warnings Over Potential Terrorist Attacks

MI5 Issues Straight Talking Warning – Mumbai Style Attacks Could Well Happen.

British MI5 Official’s have issued a stiff warning today saying that Europe and the US are in fear of ‘commando style’ terrorist attacks in the very near future, and that we should all be aware of what is around us.

The only problem I have with that, as a statement is: “are they just saying it to warn off the terrorists by saying we are ready – or are we just spitting out any old statement way to early, placing the frighteners on every man and his dog?”

Although the earlier is probably slightly bordering the ridiculous, doesn’t it make you think that sometimes we could be pulling the hair up on their neck’s, and making a rod for our own back?

Either way, we have to take statements from MI5 seriously, because only yesterday, President Obama took time out to launch a press conference with the US Senate to advise American citizens of the potential issue if they decided to tour most parts of Europe.

Even though Europe is a big place, targets have been identified by MI5 – and a mainline London train station is one of our top concerns. In France, the Eiffel Towel has been pinpointed as well as the Notre Dam Cathedral. Looking further east, Berlin has been identified as a potential issue with their Central Station and the Alexanderplatz TV tower.

And whilst we have to rely on the information through media and TV, it comes as no surprise when we also get bowled over with statements from Ex-SAS commanders that our security services are completely unprepared for such attacks.

This certainly looks like a very difficult time for secret intelligence services world wide, I just hope that the government don’t make any knee jurk reactions with the economy as it is, and remove some of our armed forces as they return from duty in foreign lands, just when we need them most.

UK Border Agency Has Successful Summer Clamp Down

Posted by on Wednesday, 29 September, 2010

UK Border and Immigration Agency Whilst the trumpets are being signalled for the next round of political initiatives, the Labour party have been issued with a new leader.

But, during the months of campaigning, the politicians have been keeping a quiet eye on the UK Border Agency during their summer clamp down of illegal workers.

Throughout the summer months, the UK Border Agency have been systematically raiding both business and residential properties across the country, including Cornwall, Leicestershire, Cumbria, Nottinghamshire and Shropshire.

And with a good hit rate, they have managed to arrest illegal workers who do not hold the correct documentation for working in the UK. With an average of between 2-3 workers at each business raid, the UKBA have managed to issue prosecution notices which have totalled close to £30,000 per business owner for not meeting the required standards expected.

The majority of cases that were reported either involved a fast food outlet, or a restaurant – as these types of places struggle to keep employee’s for more than a few months, and at extremely concerning pay rates.

One particular case which was unearthed by the UKBA found that one employer was giving his illegal workers only £15 per day, plus food and accommodation, bringing the total earning on average of £125 per week for around 85 hours – or just under £1.50 per hour.

But, now that these outlets have been found guilty once, the agency then keeps a close eye on them for the following 12 months to make sure they don’t follow the same path again.

And now that they have finished the purge on this style of business, they will continue into the winter with more raids on ‘Hand Car Wash’ businesses which set up at either shopper car parks in town centres, and petrol forecourts that have closed and gone out of business.

Statistics show that there is between 2 and 3 of these outlets in any town, which obviously should keep them busy for a long time to come.

‘A’ list or ‘A’ Platoon?

Afghan Heros Mothers Day Ride Out 2010 When you take a few moments to cast your minds back through life’s experiences, things which you thought at the time meant so much to the safety of you, your family and those around you, have little consequence when you consider the situations our country is in today with respect to our Armed Forces.

Problem is, I can still see myself sitting with my friends ‘passed’ and present outside the local shops on the estate where we lived, watching others protest on their motorcycles to try and keep speeding cars at lower speeds.

The problem was that some of these people are not with us now, and I still find myself taking a few moments and thinking about what they would do to bring the media attention to spotlight such problems.

To: Present Day
Personally, I don’t mind holding my hands up in saying; “every now and again, something gets placed on my desk which takes my attention like a flashing beacon.” This, due to the nature of the beast, can also be good news as well as bad.

And no matter what it seems to be, we focus our attention on the job in hand, and write short extracts for you, the reading public, to read and digest over a coffee and a cigarette, maybe?

Yet the opposite side of the coin is pretty unbalanced, when you consider the other people and stories which get missed.

Why? Because the media in general can be a strange industry, with most of the time they (or we) getting so focused with what distributes and profits. This can sometimes mean we miss the points which are probably the most important, and by far closer to home.

This week alone, I have seen article after post about general media which in fairness, should be treated with absolutely no respect what so ever – and Lindsay Lohan is a prime example of what I mean.

Over the last few months, this one person has probably taken more space in any publication, be it on the internet or in black and white, than any other main stream topic next to the future (potential) Prime Minister of the UK, or the negotiations of settlements for Palestinians.

And for what? Because she takes drugs, breaks the law and earns millions for it.

So, let us take a few minutes and reflect on one missing piece to this jigsaw – ‘because we seem to be forgetting the people who are placing themselves on the front line to complete or accomplish something which they are instructed to do, and which was not exactly by choice.

Yes, I hear the people at the back who shout, “why did they sign up if they didn’t want to fight?”

But at the same time, why should we forget them and place celebrity focus on someone who has broken the law, been prosecuted on many occasions for the same offence and is not exactly an outstanding member of society right now?

As for me, I can publish the fact that I am slightly embarrassed at the thought of forgetting those who have protected Queen and country, and have lost their lives in the process.

Time to stand back and take stock for a second, close your mind off to the world and spare a thought to those who have not only lost their lives this last few day’s / weeks or years – but their families who miss them dearly.

Here are just a few names of those who have sacrificed life, and our wishes go out to the families of: Justin Allen 23, Brett Linley 29, Matthew Weikert 29, Justus Bartett 27, Dave Santos 21, Chase Stanley 21, Jesse Reed 26, Matthew Johnson 21, Zachary Fisher 24, Brandon King 23, Christopher …Goeke 23, and Sheldon Tate 27 are all Marines that gave their lives this week with no media mention.

Afghan Heroes Mothers Day 2010 - Wootton Bassett

And if words can not portray the picture, take a second to think why over 10,000 bikers took part in the “Mothers Day” event in Wootton Bassett – was it just for the ride, or were they just speaking out in the way they know best? The picture to the right was taken from this event, which was, according to 99.9% of attendee’s, a complete breath of fresh air cast over a somewhat dark day.

Shame the Daily Mail Reporter didn’t think about that before he classified every one of them as a ‘petrol spewing, gas guzzling over weight biker’ in his post the following day!!

A huge amount of respect is given to ALL of these people, their loved ones, and their families too.

“On behalf of the country, we thank all of our Armed Forces for what they do, because without them, we would probably be in slightly different world right now.”

Builder Calls for Banks Building Walls Against Small Businesses to Stop

Posted by on Monday, 27 September, 2010

Cameron Hope at Barclay's BankBanks will always build a wall when it comes to borrowing money, because they have to be the one in control, especially when it comes to lending.

Well, this was taken to heart by builder, Cameron Hope.

The story is that Cameron Hope, who had previously tried to get a loan to help his business and develop some of the areas he was falling behind in, got refused the help so decided to get his own back on the banking industry.

Whilst the banks were closed on Sunday, Hope and a few of his helpers decided to build a brick wall for the bank to get over, in protest of the lack of help for small businesses.

Mr Hope, a 59 year old property developer from Bournemouth, went to his local branch of Barclay’s Bank in Westbourne, and laid a foundation for what might strike a chord with many other small businesses up and down the country.

Whilst in the process of building the 8ft x 4ft wall, Mr Hope was joined by other local business owners who had also experienced problems with the banking industry, covering the wall with placards saying things like ‘Robbed by the banks we own’ and how banks are just not lending enough.

This protest is basically saying to the Government that the “small business owners” have had enough, and that the banks are to blame for the slow economic recovery due to lending less and less to small businesses in general.

When asked, Mr Hope explained that selecting the Barclay’s branch was a random selection, and the protest was not directly against them, but the banking industry on a whole.

What is ironic is the name of the builder, Cameron Hope!

Who would have thought that these two words could have been placed together as a name, let alone a statement.

Millions Paid To Migrants Detained In The UK

Posted by on Sunday, 26 September, 2010

UK Border and Immigration AgencyJust as the dust had settled following the elections, news breaks that migrants are claiming millions for unfair treatment.

We all know the facts and figures for how many immigrants are decending on the UK day in, day out – but what about the claims that are being made by some of these ‘sanctuary’ seeking EU and non-EU visitors.

The Government have released details that in the UK, millions of pounds is being paid out to migrants who have been detained in the system claiming that they have been ‘traumatised’ after being locked up in detention centres.

Whilst the Home Office claim that they do not keep records of these special payments in proportion, they still say that over the last few years that the figure is spreading into the millions.

Passport Control for UK ImmigrationDuring the period for 2009 / 10 – the records show that ‘special payments’ has climbed up to a staggering £12 million pounds, and a further £3 million accounted for the previous year.

And the reason according to legal experts is because there is an “epidemic of mistreatment” within the asylum system.

What seems to be slightly concerning is that in one case this summer, a Ugandan who claimed he had been ‘tortured’ was awarded £110,000 after the court ruled he had been unlawfully detained in the UK for 10 months.

In a completely seperate case, a west African woman was detained at Yarl’s Wood detention centre in Bedforshire and awarded a £57,000 payout for being locked up for one month. The judge in this case claimed that there was a ‘grave failing’ by the Home Office and that the figure awarded was by far less than what the person had suffered, and said that he was bound by law to offer this maximum payment even though he thought it was worth more.

So, by coming to the United Kingdom, with probably no papers, identification or belongings – a migrant expects to just walk in the door, sign a form to say that he or she would like to take residence here without being given time to be processed?

Having personally seen the conditions of some of the UK Border Detention Centres, I can not understand how someone can come into the UK and claim asylum due to the problems in their own country, and then serve legal proceedings against the Border Agency for being kept for a period of time so that documentation can be found of who, where and why they have arrived in the country.
