Toilet Closure Concerns – Cheltenham Gloucestershire

Toilet Facilities Closed in Cheltenham Parks

Are Cheltenham Council Taking The ........

Another beautiful spring day, people out walking around the Cotswold town of Cheltenham – lapping up the sunshine, enjoying the walks in the gorgeous parks when suddenly that cry from a child; “I need the toilet!!!”

Well, it is happening right now in Sanford Park – just behind the Lido, where the council have a perfectly set out play area for children with swings and slides, climbing frames and a toilet facility which is “CLOSED” to the public. Yes, I appreciate that facilities need to be maintained, yes they have to be closed in the winter because of lack of use, but come on CBC, we have had two staggering weeks of sunshine and you still haven’t opened them.

Here is the problem: “We as a family use the facilities in Sandford Park on a regular basis, and I can’t remember once over the last 3 weeks when we have visited the play area with our son (who is 4 years old) and not found less than 8 or 10 children playing in the childrens area.

And hand on heart, I have seen on more than one occasion – parents having to suspend children in mid flight over shrubs and bushed area’s so they can relieve themselves. And please, don’t tell me “they can hold it till they get home!”

We contacted Cheltenham Borough Council and advised that the toilets were undergoing refurbishment, and would re-open on the weekend 16th/17th April – 2011. We arrived at the play area on Saturday to find them still “CLOSED” – so made another call this morning.

This time, we were given the number of John Reece who is in charge of the Council Public Amenities – he advised that there was a “blockage” issue, and that they had notified Severn Trent to investigate. In the mean time, he also mentioned that due to council cut backs, that there was no guarantee this facility would be opened in the future, and should we wish the take this further – to speak with Roger Whybourn MP.

We have now spoken to Roger Whybourn, who advised that this is not the only block of toilets to be closed – with Coxs’ Meadow having been closed as of the 1st April 2011.

At what point will these cut backs stop – do we need children to start playing in other childrens’ excretion, do they have to fall i’ll and cost the NHS more money for medical assistance, drugs and follow up checks… ???

The only way to get this heard is to stand up, bring the point to the table and see how long it takes the council to find alternative funding to keep health risk at a minimum – and remove some of those useless traffic wardens from the town centre, who find extremely long spells talking to taxi drivers parked in Royal Well, where they should not be parked anyway. (Yes, I got a ticket recently… fair cop.)

Tell us what you think, and let us get some steam up and give the council what for.

Posted by Lynn Proctor on Friday, 25 February, 2011

Helen Mirren at The Oscars 2011As we all know by now, Dame Helen Mirren has already strolled the red carpet at The Oscars Ceremony and walked away with an “Oscar” on more than one occassion, but recently Dame Helen decided to open up the thoughts and tell of which was here favourite.

Mirren, who received the first of her four Oscar nominations back in 1995 for her magnificent performance in The Madness of King George and went on to win the ‘Best Actress’ award just over a decade later for her role in ‘The Queen’ where she played the part of Queen Elizabeth the Queen of England.

On speaking out to the Entertainment Tonight host, Dame Helen said that winning the Oscar was completely incomparable to any of life’s greatest pleasures.

“It is one of the most amazing experiences of one’s life,” she said. “There really is nothing like it.”

One thing that Dame Helen did say to those who were being nominated for this years ‘Oscars’ was that once the ceremony was over, that the ‘afterglow’ quickly wears off.

“You’re in the most amazing…multi-coloured bubble. Then the night after the Oscars, the bubble bursts and you go back to reality,” said the Dame.

Posted by Natalia Bratzlova on Friday, 25 February, 2011

…Who is seen with whom and what they wear on the red carpet fashion at award ceremonies is watched by millions of critical fans worldwide. The Academy Awards Oscars 2011 having the largest viewers across the globe watching the red carpet fashion. Everyone who is anyone scrambles to walk the red carpet with the worlds press cameras putting celebrities fashion under the spot light.

Over the years the red carpet fashion at the Oscars has inspired and influenced generations of fashion conscious fans. The Oscars for 2011 will be no exception and keen eyes will be on every garment worn down the famous red carpet fashion. After a strong year for British presenters and actors within US television and film, hopefully this rise in talent will be recognised by the Academy Awards with nominations for the Oscars 2011.

How better to compliment this rise in British talent than to see red carpet fashion led by British fashion designers. It is vogue to be British at this time, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see British film stars not opting for the usual European and Continental fashion brands but instead flying the flag by wearing British designer dresses at the Oscars 2011.

One of our rising British fashion talent to keep an eye on is Suzanne Neville who is rapidly the first name for British celebrities when it comes to red carpet fashion. Suzanne has already gained high fashion praise for the black dresses worn on the red carpet by Carol Vorderman to the Pride of Britain Awards, Holly Willoughby to the National Television Awards and Charlotte Hawkins reporting on this years’ BATAs.

British fashion has a lot be proud of and we wait in anticipation of the dresses that make into the red carpet fashion at the Oscars 2011.

Holly Willoughby Dancing On Ice 2011

Posted by Lynn Proctor on Sunday, 9 January, 2011

It’s that time of year again to put away the Christmas decorations and put your feet up infront of the TV for another sequin parade of Dancing On Ice 2011 with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby – with Christopher Dean and Jane Torvill.

But as ever, it won;t be the contestants that are the focus of many avid watchers, and probably more so towards what Holly Willoughby will be wearing for the first show.

Over the years, Willoughby has be rained in by TV bosses over some of the revealing dresses she has presented in, so this year you will find that every fashion guru and his pins will be glued to see exactly what she is going to wear.

Never one to dissapoint the crowd, Willoughby has presented herself and her elegant figure in designer dresses but has always opted for one fashion designer – Suzanne Neville. Even the night that Hayley Tamaddon got crowned in 2010 – Holly was looking fabulous in an off the shoulder number, wavy hair and looking ever the seductress.

For more information about the fashion designer, Suzanne Neville and the dresses Holly Willoughby wears, go take a look at the Suzanne Neville Fashion Blog at: Holly Willoughby Dresses Up For Dancing On Ice

Younest Mother Delivers Natural Birth at 10 Years Old

Child Birth at 10 Years Old - Whatever Next?

For a parent, it must be one of the scariest things in the world to hear that moment when your daughter walks into the room and says “I’m pregnant!” But, for the majority of us we hope that it at least holds off till they are old enough to look after a new born, let alone conceive it.

For a Spanish parent, that’s definitely not the case – after their 10 year old daughter gave birth naturally to a 6lb 6oz baby through natural birth.

Unbelievable as it may seem, most girls of that age have hardly started their ‘adult’ cycle, let alone thought about being a parent to a new born child before they hit their teenage years.  This just highlights how different countries beliefs are, with Spain having a law which allows children to marry at the age of 14, and consent to sex at 13.

I know my beliefs are set in stone – because if we be honest with ourselves for just one minute, what age a child should be classed as ‘rown up’ enough to make their own mind up?

Personally, being a parent and having got married at 21 – I think that the age of consent should be 18, with the same for marriage and 21 to consume alcohol.  But, that is my opinion – what is yours?

Discovery Delayed by 24 Hours by NASA Fault Check

Discovery Awaiting Final Electronics Test

Space Shuttle Discovery

Your ready for a big meeting and your lift doesn’t arrive, you just call a cab and away you go. Well, not for the Astronauts who are waiting to be blasted off at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida this week, as they suddenly get held up with a ‘technical’ hitch in the electronics.

There  never seems to be a launch without a hitch, be it a fault with the aircraft or the weather conditions not being suitable.

And this weeks launch is not going to disappoint with the 24 hours delay so that NASA can investigate a problem which seems to be causing some concerns, yet they can not get to the bottom of ‘WHY’ it is happening.

So, what is it that is holding the big bird up from it’s final launch?

According to engineers from the Space Centre in Kennedy, there was a fault that kept coming up on the pre check which told them the back up engines were at fault – obviously, something pretty important when you consider how far they are going, right?

Absolutely, but when asked the big question after the announcement, Launch Director Michael Leinbach replied: “It’s another day in paradise.”

“This is part of the business, you fly when you’re ready and you don’t if you’re not, and we’re not ready to go.”
And they are just so right, it would be like turning up at the airport without your passport – yet slightly more serious!
So, the delay is expected to roll over to Thursday 3:29 p.m. EDT at the latest – unless something else pops up and takes them by surprise. And with a 70% chance of a low cloud base, I guess that the 6 man Discovery crew headed by commander Steven Lindsey may not be holding their breath.

UK Airport Goes On High Security Alert

UPS Plane Sparks Terror At UK Airport

UPS Aircraft Sparks Bomb Alert

Whilst routine checks were being carried out this morning at East Midland Airport, a suspect package was found which placed the whole airport on high security until they had isolated the package.

The Police were called earlier this morning by East Midlands Airport, to attend the distribution centre after airport security had found the package.

Official spokesperson from the USA said that they had found the suspect package which was a toner cartridge which had been tampered with, and looked like wires had been placed in it with white powder inside.

Tests were carried out and the package was actually found to be harmless, never the less, it sparked a considerable concern amongst UPS staff as they had to move 2 aircraft away from buildings at Philadelphia and another 1 from their Newark, New Jersey depot.

And if that wasn’t enough problems for UPS in the US, they then got reports that Police in New York were attending another suspect package which looked like a bomb, on one of their delivery trucks which was on the road in Brooklyn.

A statement from the Department of Transport was issued earlier and said:  “There is a police operation ongoing at East Midlands airport.”

And a spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: “We are aware of the incident and it is a matter for the police. The Department for Transport is taking the lead on this.”

Did Google Take Your Private Data?

Posted by David Grangerda on Friday, 29 October, 2010
Google Wearing The Dunce Hat

If the cap fits....

It is now perfectly clear that Google has admitted that they have breached security in the UK by removing personal data through wi-fi connections as they were taking images ready for it’s live map database.

Earlier in the year, Google said that “NO” significant data had been collected’- which now appears to be complete utter lies.

Among some of the data taken included private email details and passwords, along with lots more private and obviously, insecure information which was allowed to be sucked through the air at the bat of an eye lid. According to Google’s PR, they claim it was “a mistake” and that they are working to delete the data.

The office of ‘The Information Commissioner’  of th eprivacy watchdog has said that they are going to look into it again and see exactly what it was that Google had extracted, including why and how.

What I find to be completely unbelievable is a company who are obviously so big and knowledgeable as Google, can map millions of addresses with personal email addresses, passwords and other personal data – all through vehicle’s with wi-fi, claim that they did not know it was happening and didn’t want the data either!

I must admit, I will be following this one pretty closely, because I can’t think for one minute they will use the excuse that they were experiencing poor 3G connection and couldn’t upload the images quick enough, like we experience every day?

But, what if it was me or you that got arrested for doing something like this, and we had the personal data of millions of people from accross the country – what would happen to us?

Prison!

Cross Fire Between North and South Korea

Posted by David French on Friday, 29 October, 2010

Tension Between North and South KoreaThe tensions are rising between North and South Korea again today as the North decided to stream two rounds of bullets at it’s Southern neighbours, sparking off some heavy crossfire.

According to local officials, this all started out when the Northern Army sprayed a guard post in the Demilitarized Zone between the two countries where they knew some of the Southern Korean army were hiding out.

It’s unknown if the shots were fired for any reason, or if it was just an accident – but either way this could spark an unrest between the two countries following weeks of negotiation between the two countries to stage military talks.

All of this is not going to help either country during times when the G20 are considering taking action against North Korea. Only yesterday, Canada decided to place trading restrictions against North Korea, as well as diplomatic restrics said Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Lawrence Cannon.

‘Trade between the two contries wil be put on hold until further notice, apart from aid for humanatarian reasons’ said Cannon.

Indonesian Tsunami Death Toll Rises

Posted by Ian Carmichael on Friday, 29 October, 2010

Tsunami in IndonesiaIn what was only classed as a minor Tsunami, the death toll has risen to over 400 people – which we can hardly call a ‘minor’ number.

The underwater earth shake registered a magnitude-7.7 which hit the panic button for officials last Friday, and with the death toll rising and the number of lost people not falling, fears are that the amount of survivors from the missing list will be extremely low.

It’s incredible to think that the figures published today from the National Disaster Organisation claim that nearly 13,000 people were evacuated when the disaster happened, 270 people had serious injuries and only 140 people had minor injuries – thank you to the hard work of those who helped immediately after the wave came tumbling in.

If you look back through statistic, you will see the on 26th December 2004, a 9.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the Norther side of Sumatra which killed over 225,000 people spread over 14 countries. The total count for that tsunami ended up as over 150,000 dies in over 14 countries.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho who works for the Indonesian National Board of Disaster Management said: ‘It’s been difficult to protect Indonesia’s small islands with a tsunami warning system, but most of them will be covered by February 2011.’

Local and state media cited a message from the governer of Western Sumatra stating that: ‘Mondays Tsunami had taken out or dmaged 426 homes, and that 6 out of 27 villages had been flattened on the Mentawai Islands.

The official estimation of funding needed to rebuild these areas has been estimated in the $100,000,000.00 – which may start to encourage some of the richer countries to place some finances with them in hope it starts to get things back together for the Indonesian families who now have no homes what so ever.

The European Commission has already sent in funds totalling $2.1 million to help the people hardest hit.
