Oscars 2011 – Red Carpet for British Fashion Designers

Posted by on Friday, 25 February, 2011

…Who is seen with whom and what they wear on the red carpet fashion at award ceremonies is watched by millions of critical fans worldwide. The Academy Awards Oscars 2011 having the largest viewers across the globe watching the red carpet fashion. Everyone who is anyone scrambles to walk the red carpet with the worlds press cameras putting celebrities fashion under the spot light.

Over the years the red carpet fashion at the Oscars has inspired and influenced generations of fashion conscious fans. The Oscars for 2011 will be no exception and keen eyes will be on every garment worn down the famous red carpet fashion. After a strong year for British presenters and actors within US television and film, hopefully this rise in talent will be recognised by the Academy Awards with nominations for the Oscars 2011.

How better to compliment this rise in British talent than to see red carpet fashion led by British fashion designers. It is vogue to be British at this time, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see British film stars not opting for the usual European and Continental fashion brands but instead flying the flag by wearing British designer dresses at the Oscars 2011.

One of our rising British fashion talent to keep an eye on is Suzanne Neville who is rapidly the first name for British celebrities when it comes to red carpet fashion. Suzanne has already gained high fashion praise for the black dresses worn on the red carpet by Carol Vorderman to the Pride of Britain Awards, Holly Willoughby to the National Television Awards and Charlotte Hawkins reporting on this years’ BATAs.

British fashion has a lot be proud of and we wait in anticipation of the dresses that make into the red carpet fashion at the Oscars 2011.

NFL Return To Wembley With Enthusiasm

NFL at Wembley Stadium Oct 2010

NFL Wembley London 2010

The game of American Football returned to Wembley Stadium this weekend, and with such an amazing crowd eager to see the battle commence, it questions the point – should this be taken on by British as a regular pre-season or post season spectacular?

It was apacked house at the stadium, where the Denver Bronco’s took on the Sanfransisco 49′ers in one of the biggest NFL games hosted in the UK.

The crown were buzzing considering the greay October evening, and they were not to be dissapointed for their £90+ ticket prices. It took a litle while for the game to be fully charged, with the first touchdown coming in the second half by Tim Tebow as he piled over a heap of bodies on the ground.

The 49′ers looked pretty much dead and buried when like a bullet out of a gun came Jabar Gaffney took a pass from Kyle Orton in the end zone, only to have it quashed and called back for a penalty.

Of the four games which have been played at Wembley for the British NFL crowed, this certainly had to be classed as the best so far. The first two were extremely low quality, the third was a complete walkover and one sided, where as this was a complete end to end game.

With rumours that tickets could have sold out 5 times over, we can safely say that this one off event may just stretch into a small series over a week or so on closed season. Whichever way it happens, it needs to judging by the response from the crowd during the game, plus the 38,000 which turned up at Trafalger Square on Saturday for a pre-match rally.

Final result: 49′ers (24) v Bronco’s (16)

Another Bad Day At The Office For Jenson

Posted by on Sunday, 24 October, 2010

After a couple of days of testing in Korea, and what could only be described as being another wet day on the track, Jenson Button confirmed his lack of energy for McLaren with a pretty poor 12th place finish – 10 places behind his team mate.

Yet watching both the Redbull cars go out in pretty spectacular way’s, you would have thought that McLaren and Ferrari had seen all of their Christmas’ come rolled up in a real short space of time.

During the race, Mclaren engineers were in contact with both drivers and the responses of the pair couldn’t have been so different. With Jenson reading one hymn sheet and saying he couldn’t get the car to stay on the track, Lewis sounded like he had just been given the biggest bag of sweets and had no one to share them with.

Slowly but surely, Button began to go backwards with reported tyre degregation, when it is something which Hamilton normally reports. But with a Ferrari in front of him, and one not too far behind, Hamilton managed to keep hs composure and slide the McLaren into a sweet second place behind Alonso, with Massa taking the third spot.

With only a couple of races to go now, it looks like the chamionship is over for Button being 48 points behind. But now that Webber added another DNF to his team, it leaves Alonso in a very nice place to bring Ferrari a potential world title.

After the race, Button seemed to be extremely down beat about the whole weekend – but then you could hardly expect him to be jumping for joy after witnessing Hamilton close the race at the top of the chamionship leader board.

It’s Wayne’s World For Another 5 Years

Wayne Rooney Stays At Mancher United

Well, At Least for Manchester United It Is

You never know what it takes for a footballer to start rumours that he want’s to leave a club, but obviously for Wayne Rooney there was a financial goal he needed to score.

Just as the boy is clearing out his locker, Sir Alex spills the news that a deal has been done where by Rooney will secure another 5 year contract with the club, for around £250,000 per week.

I ask you, why the hell would anyone want to pay a football player £13 million per year when they have been struggling for performance ever since the end of last season?

Well, there are some great speculative theories bounding around the press, which I just have to share with you.

  • Firstly, there is the situation with his bestranged wife and the amount of money she could achieve from his crock of gold.
  • Secondly, he knows something about his boss which they don;t want leaked to the press?
  • Thirdly, and probably the more obvious of the the three – is that ‘No One’ really fealt that the club had any back bone with the £700 million debt hanging round their shoulders, so Ferguson & Rooney plotted up the plan to see if they could get a vote of confidence from the owners?

This really does bring a big reality issue up again, where by the problem we have in this country with ‘Great’ sports people is that we don’t want to see the good ones leave the country and fly off abroad like David Beckham did.

I guess the only positive side is that the tax man will get 40%!

Tom Hicks and George Gillett Battle For Liverpool FC

Posted by on Thursday, 7 October, 2010

LFC Anfield Road in True Colour

Pre Season @ Annfield Road

Anfield Awaits Court Rulling Over Red Sox Takeover.

Whilst Liverpool FC are experiencing some major problems on pitch, off pitch seems to be taking the limelight away from poor performance of some of the highest paid players in the premiership, with the battle for ownership now entering courts in the UK and potentially the USA as well.

Takeover aside, Gillett and Hicks will have the biggest uphill climb to even consider keeping tight hold of the club, based on their financial performance since they took ownership of the club not so many years ago. And with anger still on the faces of the supporters, I’m not sure even if they get to counter the takeover, that they will get any support from the thousands of loyal fans around the globe, let alone in the UK.

This whole situation only brings one major problem into the spotlight, which is businesses and people who buy into british clubs and companies who are not cash rich, taking them directly into debt upon takeover.

Liverpool was no different when Hicks and Gillett signed the deal a few years ago, taking the clubs debts to a record high, whilst still paying heavy payments to the Royal Bank of Scotland for what they borrowed from day one. In short, this meant that the income Liverpool was seeing from gate receipts, TV endorsements and retail sales was being swallowed up by interest payments to RBS.

And they are not alone, because whilst all this “pie in the sky” talking telephone numbers is bound around the media, we seem to be forgetting that Manchester United are in double the amount of trouble than Liverpool, with an average of 20% greater revenue into club funds.

This fiasco which is happening right now with Liverpool, should be an early warning to the FA that they need to get some tighter guidelines put in place to stop this ever happenening again.

We are still potentially days if not weeks away from the final outcome – let’s just hope that once it is settled either way, that the team and Roy Hodgson can buckle down and concentrate of performance related issue’s, before the fan base lose complete faith in what was not so long ago, one of the top 5 teams in Europe.

Twitter Ban By Ryder Cup Captains

Posted by on Tuesday, 28 September, 2010

Ryder Cup 2010 | Celtic Manor ResortCardiff – Celtic Manor Hotel and Country Club

Only days before the start of the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor, the captains have issued a stern warning to players that they must refrain from using any type of social networking site during the competition, which included Twitter.

That is hardly surprising considering the ‘unwritten’ law of the game of golf, and that mobile devices should not be used on the course and any player caught using one by the club captain, will be fined.

May be they should ban the twittering scenario from all pro sports men and women, so they can concentrate on the situation in hand without having to tell the world and his dog what is happening on the inside of those four walls?

The story behind the captains placing a ban on social networking broke shortly after Kevin Pietersen was dragged over the coals for using Twitter to release the news that he had been dropped from the side in the Twenty20 series against Pakistan. Kevin Pietersens Twitter Message

Mean while, Ian Poulter who regurlaly sends out Tweets from the course, had to remove one this week which basically said that he had been evacuated fro his room at the Celtic Manor Hotel due to a fire alarm, and called it “a shocker.”

The American’s flew into Cardiff yesterday morning in preperation for Friday’s start. But, as soon as they had arrived at the Celtic Manor course, Cory Pavin and his English counterpart revealed that they had requested players not to engage in social networking till at least after the event.

Monty said; ‘It’s not a ban as such because if somebody does it, how can you punish them for it? I have just asked my team not to and they have said, ‘okay, that’s fine, we’ll start tweetering or twittering again on Monday, 4 October’.

David and Victoria Beckham to Issue Legal Against In Touch Magazine

Posted by on Friday, 24 September, 2010

David and Victoria BeckhamIn a month where we have seen more footballer’s come under fire for their off pitch antics, it appears that David Beckham is the next one under fire from ‘In Touch’ magazine which has published a story about David playing away from home with a prostitute and another woman.

It has been published that both David and Victoria Beckham are going to issue proceedings against the magazine, with a formal front page apology from them saying that the story was untrue.

And if that won’t keep their legal team busy, David also confirmed in the press today that he will be pressing for liable against the ‘vice girl’ Irma Nici – with one report saying that they will be seeking in excess of £5 million in damages for the story she passed to the press of the alleged threesome between herself, David and an undisclosed third person.

Obviously, this all comes at a dangerous time as Beckham head’s the campaign for the World Cup 2018 bid for the UK.

It’s reported that Victoria is firmly standing by her LA Galaxy playing husband, claiming that she believes him and his denial of the event.

Reports say that the ‘legal proceedings’ are going to be issued in the UK, even though the magazine is US based and only published for the US market plus Germany.

And the reason for this, is because since the magazine published the article, it has been banded about through the UK press.

Liverpool Attacked By A Load Of Cobblers

Posted by on Wednesday, 22 September, 2010

Northampton Town FC Following the defeat at the weekend to Manchester United, the last thing you would have expected tonight was a second class side being aired for the match between Liverpool and Northampton Town in the Carling Cup at home.

With a relatively strong side, Liverpool opened the night with an impressive goal from Jovanovic – which was his first goal whilst wearing a mighty red shirt.

But being in front was not something which lasted, with Northampton going 1-1 and then 2-1 up later in the game.

At full time, the scores were level at 2-2 which mean’t only one thing – penalties, which let’s face it, should have been pretty much in the bag for Liverpool.

Well, not the case as the mighty reds managed to put at least one ball in ‘The Cop’ and another deflecting off the cross bar – with a final result of 4-2 to Northampton from what could only be descibed as a ‘shocking’ performance from Liverpool.

After the match, Jovanovic described the result as a ‘catastrophe,’ and whilst being interviewed by the local Liverpool Echo, Jovanovic even apologised to the fans claiming, ‘I am dissapointed, we all are.’

‘We are sorry for the result, but we have to move on now.’

Not long after, Ryan Babel who uses Twitter to express his thoughts, was obviously gutted by tweeting, ‘I failed in Liverpool defeat.’

Roy Hodgson’s face during the post match interview said it all – with a completely downturned mouth he muttered, ‘Credit must go to Northampton, they played well.’

What next for Liverpool?

Right now they are 16th in the league and only 1 point off the relegation zone – which if they keep this up, could be where they will end up.

David Beckham Gives World Cup 2018 Bid A Boost

Posted by on Tuesday, 21 September, 2010

The David Beckam Academy
David Beckham flies out to the Womens under 17 World Cup finals in Trinidad this weekend, and it won’t be just to watch the game.

Beckham, who was formerly a captain for England, will be heading a coaching session for over 200 children at the academy in Port of Spain, which was a promise he made to Jack Warner the president of the CONCACAF Federation when they talked in Cape Town last year during his visit.

During his time in Trinidad, David will be with the cheif executive of the 2018 bid committee, Andy Anson – as well as the international president David Dein, giving them all an opportunity to rub shoulders with the FIFA President, Sepp Blatter as well as the committee members who will be deciding the final location for the tournament in 2018.

Other than keeping a keen focus on the situation of the UK’s bid for the tournament, David’s LA Galaxy team will have a game on Friday night against New York Red Bulls, headed by Thierry Henry.

Saturday will see the Women’s Under 17 World Cup Final take place where Beckham will no doubt be taking full opportunity to push the UK bid with the decision making powerbrokers.

Even though the schedule seems pretty tight, David let slip that he would be “taking advantage” of every possible situation to make sure that Englands bid was kept in conversation when needed.
