After a couple of days of testing in Korea, and what could only be described as being another wet day on the track, Jenson Button confirmed his lack of energy for McLaren with a pretty poor 12th place finish – 10 places behind his team mate.

Yet watching both the Redbull cars go out in pretty spectacular way’s, you would have thought that McLaren and Ferrari had seen all of their Christmas’ come rolled up in a real short space of time.

During the race, Mclaren engineers were in contact with both drivers and the responses of the pair couldn’t have been so different. With Jenson reading one hymn sheet and saying he couldn’t get the car to stay on the track, Lewis sounded like he had just been given the biggest bag of sweets and had no one to share them with.

Slowly but surely, Button began to go backwards with reported tyre degregation, when it is something which Hamilton normally reports. But with a Ferrari in front of him, and one not too far behind, Hamilton managed to keep hs composure and slide the McLaren into a sweet second place behind Alonso, with Massa taking the third spot.

With only a couple of races to go now, it looks like the chamionship is over for Button being 48 points behind. But now that Webber added another DNF to his team, it leaves Alonso in a very nice place to bring Ferrari a potential world title.

After the race, Button seemed to be extremely down beat about the whole weekend – but then you could hardly expect him to be jumping for joy after witnessing Hamilton close the race at the top of the chamionship leader board.
